Revamped Bungalow

A single-storey suburban dwelling was transformed into a contemporary family home that retained the charm of a "Californian Bungalow".

The house was a single-storey that had been "renovated" over numerous years.  The owners wanted an upper-level addition consisting of a family room, bathroom, two bedrooms, study and storage.  The new level was to have full-height ceilings but appear as an attic addition from the street.

The front elevation to the street was to remain a single storey and had to externally appear as if it was all built at the same time and not impact on all the earlier renovations.

The house demonstrates that it is possible to provide an upper-level addition with generous living spaces, and maintain the period style look of the home.
